Thank you for the interest you have shown in the Simple Steps dental implant year course for 2017. Our objective is to guide general practitioners with little or no experience in implant dentistry who would like to incorporate implant dentistry into their own practices safely and effectively.
As well as teaching the theory and practice of modern surgical and prosthetic implantology, it is also our aim to incorporate teaching, guidance and advice on all of the disciplines that define a successful implant practitioner. This includes diagnosis, laboratory communication, patient management, armamentarium and equipment selection, marketing, medicolegal issues and key implantology-centered practical clinical skills.
We believe it is the most hands-on implant course in the UK today with every delegate treating at least one patient of their own from start to finish and observing all the treatment stages of their colleague’s patients. We will be supported by a variety of different companies and guest lecturers with whom we work closely. Delegates will also be learning how to create the best environment within their own practices to ease their way into offering implant dentistry and mentoring is provided free of charge during the course and for one year by e-mail and telephone thereafter.
We are looking forward to welcoming you on the course next year! Kind regards.

Each course will consist of a day of lectures (Friday) at B.D.A. and a day of practical’s and / or live surgery for all delegates at Dr Feran’s practice (Saturday). Dinner will normally be arranged on Friday evenings for the group in W1 London, where we would be delighted if you could attend regularly during the course for the group to get to know each other better. Delegates will derive maximum benefit from this course if they have at least one or two patients that may be amendable to straightforward implant treatment that they can bring for treatment during the course.
When signing up, we recommend that delegates start actively looking for such patients and fully document including photographically and radiographically for presentation prior to starting. Whilst we would like to be able to provide patients for this course, the nature of our referral practices often makes it very difficult for us to do so. Suitable patients should be willing to travel and know that they are being treated in a course environment and will be observed by other clinical professionals. Any fees charged are at the discretion of the delegate.
Suitable cases would involve missing single teeth or small spans amendable to treatment with 1 to 3 implants, with good clinical access and sufficient bone volume to not necessitate advanced grafting procedures prior to placement.
It usually works best if delegates prepare three or four patients and the most suitable one for the course is selected once the course is commenced. If timing allows, more than one patient can be treated.
Now in its 12th year this dental implant course is designed to be a comprehensive beginner’s introduction for general practitioners of all levels who wish to incorporate implant dentistry into their practices, obtain contemporary knowledge and have practical hands on experience whilst doing so. Between us we have over 60 years’ implant experience and have been running dental implant year courses for at least the past 10 years.
We made the decision to amalgamate the best of our experience and we have updated it in line with current guidelines and regulations to give a comprehensive grounding in basic dental implant surgery and restorative dentistry for general practice.
Educational outcome and qualifications (including CPD value if applicable)
The delegate will be able to confidently assess, diagnose, and treat patients requiring implants within the scope of general restorative and surgical dentistry. Qualifies for CPD for approximately 70 hours of lectures and approximately 80 hours of practical hands on, observation, mentoring and discussion of live cases.
Under mentoring guidelines introduced by the GDC, it is now necessary for all dental school graduates to have suitable postgraduate training prior to undertaking implant dentistry. It will be necessary for the course presenters to assess each delegate during the course and for each delegate to keep a log book of their experiences and learning outcomes during the course. The presenters in their role as mentors will then advise the delegate as to whether in their opinion the delegate is competent to practice implant dentistry.
